College Start: 12th Grade

The transition from high school to college can be tough. Applying to college in 12th grade is stressful, and then there’s more pressure to do well in a new setting with new expectations. BEAM is here to help with all of that. 

 

College Start begins in 12th grade and continues through your first year in college. Sign up to get help with college applications and financial aid, and to get support during your first year.  Whether it's creating a college list, or getting feedback on your personal and supplemental essays, we understand there are many challenging aspects of the college application process and are here to help you navigate them.

Participation in College Start prioritizes your application for BEAM's $2,000 - $5,000 scholarship. Plus, if you finish all of the requirements, you'll receive money and swag from BEAM.

When you sign up, you commit to:

  • Meet with the College Admissions Coordinator throughout the school year*. This includes:

    • Meeting once in September or October​

    • Meeting once in December

    • Meeting once in March or April

  • Staying up to date with BEAM.  This includes:

    • Submitting the annual survey

    • Submitting your transcript

    • Letting BEAM know what college you decide to attend

    • Submitting a copy of your financial aid offer

* Attending College Admissions Office Hours, whether in person or virtual, can fulfill the meeting requirement

** College Start students enrolled in the BEAM College Application Workshop Saturday Class who maintain an Attendance Rate of 80%+ automatically fulfill the meeting requirements

And in return, BEAM commits to:

  • Helping with every part of the college application process. This includes:

    • Advice on building and improving your college list​

    • Feedback on your college essays

    • Help with financial aid applications and awards

    • And more!

  • Preference if you decide to apply for the BEAM College Scholarship

  • Providing free access to College Kickstart, an online program that will help you fine-tune your college list

  • Students who fulfill their Fall meeting requirements will receive a $50 Amazon gift card from BEAM.

  • Students who fulfill all of their meeting requirements will receive their choice of a college sweatshirt from the college they will be attending OR a $75 Amazon gift card.
